IT Raids Continue At Telangana Congress Leaders

IT Raids | Hyderabad, November 9: On Thursday, the Income Tax (I-T) Department initiated a series of searches at the properties of Telangana Congress leader Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.

Srinivas Reddy, a Congress candidate running in the November 30th elections for the Paleru constituency in Khammam district, had expressed concerns about potential I-T Department actions just a day earlier.

In the early hours of Thursday, I-T Department officials arrived at his residences and offices in Khammam. The searches commenced at approximately 3 a.m. and were being carried out under tight security. Prior to the searches, the I-T officials seized mobile phones from the employees.

Srinivas Reddy, who is also a businessman, had planned to submit his nomination today. He had joined the Congress party in July, a few months after being suspended by the state’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for alleged anti-party activities.

IT Raids:

On the previous day, Srinivas Reddy had anticipated I-T searches against himself, his family members, supporters, and other prominent Congress leaders in the district. He asserted that the BJP and BRS had allegedly conspired to utilize central agencies to conduct these raids on Congress leaders.

In a statement to the media, Srinivas Reddy suggested that these searches are indicative of the Congress party’s potential success in the Telangana elections. He, as the co-chairman of the Congress campaign committee, encouraged party leaders to remain steadfast during these challenging times.

In the meantime, TPCC Chief Revanth Reddy condemned the raids, expressing his belief on Twitter that “Modi – KD” were attempting to halt the Congress’s impending electoral success. He stated that these actions were designed to thwart the “Congress tsunami” in the state.

On the same day, officials from the Election Commission of India, along with the police, carried out searches at the residence of former minister and Congress candidate Tummala Nageswara Rao, who is contesting the Khammam Assembly constituency. Nageswara Rao had recently switched to the Congress party after being denied a ticket by BRS.

The state’s incumbent transport minister, P. Ajay Kumar, is seeking re-election as the BRS candidate from Khammam.
