Women Must Carry Original ID To Avail Free Bus Travel: Sajjanar

Hyderabad, Jan 9 (Maxim News): TSRTC Managing Director, VC Sajjanar once again stated that women must carry original identity cards in the Mahalakshmi free bus travel scheme.

The TSRTC has finalized the new guidelines after some women passengers put pressure on the conductors by showing them on cell phones or Xerox copies. MD said that the photo and address of the passenger should be clearly visible in the identity card and any original identity card issued by the Central and State governments is applicable for this scheme.

It has been clarified that since there is no address on the PAN card, it is not valid for free travel.  All women passengers were told to take a zero ticket and if they do not have an original identity card, they should definitely pay for the ticket, it is not free.  Some are arguing with the staff as to why they should take a zero ticket and this is not correct, he said.

He said that the government will pay the money to the TSRTC based on the issuance of zero tickets.  He warned that a fine of Rs. 500 will be imposed if one travels without a ticket.  He said that the Mahalakshmi scheme is applicable only to women of Telangana, women of other states have to pay a fee and buy a ticket.  (Maxim News)
