Elections In Jammu And Kashmir Soon: CEC Secretary

Delhi/Hyderabad, June 8 (Maxim News):  The Assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir soon.  The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced that the election process has started. CEC Secretary Jayadeb Lahiri said that it has been decided to receive applications from the registered parties and unrecognized parties for allotment of election symbols in Kashmir.  It was also revealed that the exercise has been undertaken on the allotment of reservations.

The last Assembly Election  in Jammu and Kashmir was held in 2014.  Later there was president’s rule for some time.  On August 5, 2019 the Central government abrogated Article 370.  The Supreme Court upheld the Centre’s decision and ordered the CEC to take steps to hold the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections by September 30, 2024.

It is noteworthy that the upcoming elections will be the first elections after the abrogation of Article 370.  (Maxim News)
