DRDO Successfully Tests Indigenous Precision Missile For UAVs

Hyderabad, May 19: Defence Research and Development Organisation has successfully completed the final development trials of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Launched Precision Guided Missile Version 3 (ULPGM V3) in both Air to Ground and Air to Air modes.

The trials were conducted at the DRDO test range near Kurnool using an integrated Ground Control System for command and control operations.

According to DRDO, the advanced Ground Control System uses modern automation technologies for launch operations and weapon readiness management.

The ULPGM V3 missile has been designed for anti tank missions as well as engaging drones, helicopters and other airborne targets.

DRDO partnered with Bharat Dynamics Limited and Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited for missile development and production.

The missile system was integrated with UAV platforms developed by NewSpace Research and Technologies based in Bengaluru for the current trials.

The missile was developed by Research Centre Imarat as the nodal laboratory along with contributions from Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory.

Indigenous Defence Ecosystem Powers Missile Development

DRDO stated that the missile has been produced completely through India’s domestic defence ecosystem with support from several MSMEs and industry partners.

Officials said the successful trials confirmed the maturity of the indigenous supply chain and readiness for serial mass production.

Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, public sector units, production partners and industry teams for the successful trials.

He described the achievement as a major milestone towards strengthening the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the defence sector.

The Defence Minister praised the missile’s dual operational capability in Air to Ground anti tank roles and Air to Air combat against drones and airborne targets.

Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO, also congratulated the teams involved in the successful trials.

He appreciated the coordinated efforts of scientists, engineers and industry partners in achieving the milestone.
