Zika virus disease (ZVD)

Alarmed by this, the central government alerted all the states on Wednesday. Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Atul Goyal has issued an advisory to this effect.  The center asked to be constantly vigilant about Zika, especially screening pregnant women.  Fetal growth monitoring is recommended in pregnant women diagnosed with the Zika virus.  It has been requested that a nodal officer should be appointed in each hospital and that officer should take steps to prevent the growth of mosquitoes that cause the spread of Zika virus.  It has suggested that cases of Zika should be reported immediately to the National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC) and suspected samples should be sent to the national Institute of Virology.  Pune.  It has also ordered to send samples to virus research centers under ICMR.

Thousands of people travel from Maharashtra to Telangana every day. In this context, the state medical and health department should be very alert. When such outbreaks occur, the responsibility of controlling them rests with the Public Health Officers at the field level. But we do not have any related activities till now. Seasonal diseases such as dengue, malaria and chikungunya have already started to flourish in the state. Malaria and dengue deaths have also occurred in the last five months. Opinions are being expressed that seasonal diseases are booming due to lack of strong supervision. The medical community says that the lack of a department head who is knowledgeable about these issues, especially at the field level, has become a major problem. That is why there are allegations that seasonal diseases are booming.

Zika Virus Outbreak Alert

Zika virus is a mosquito-borne flavivirus. Zika is primarily transmitted by the bite of the Aedes mosquito. Dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever viruses are also transmitted by the same mosquito bite. Zika infection has the usual symptoms. These appear for 2-7 days. In particular, fever, rash, joint pain, conjunctivitis (red eyes), muscle aches, headache and other serious problems are caused. It can cause microcephaly (birth defect), Guillain-Barré syndrome (neurological disorder), meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord).

Stagnant water around houses and public places should be removed to prevent mosquito breeding. Since Zika can also be sexually transmitted, safe practices should be followed. There is no specific treatment for Zika, but treatment is given based on symptoms. If Zika symptoms appear, get proper diagnostic tests and consult a doctor immediately. (Maxim News)
