Jitender First Under New Government:

If confirmed, Jitender would be the first DGP appointed by the current Telangana government since the Congress party came to power.

Jitender currently holds a multifaceted position, serving as both the Principal Secretary of the Home Department and the acting DGP. Additionally, he is the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement.

Upon the official announcement, Jitender is expected to take over for the current DGP, Ravi Gupta.

Anticipated Impact:

This appointment signifies a significant shift in Telangana’s law enforcement leadership. Jitender’s experience is expected to bring positive changes to the state’s police administration.

Jitender: A Dedicated Police Officer

Jitender, a 1992 batch IPS officer, hails from a humble farming family in Jalandhar, Punjab. After his training, he was selected for the Andhra Pradesh (AP) cadre.

Jitender’s career path has been marked by steady progress and a commitment to tackling challenging assignments. He began his service as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Nirmal, followed by a stint as Additional SP in Bellampally. He then rose to the position of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Guntur and Mahabubnagar districts, both areas known for Naxal activity.

Jitender’s dedication was further demonstrated by his deputation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Delhi and the elite anti-Naxalite force, the Greyhounds, from 2004 to 2006. Upon his return, he was promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and took charge of the Visakhapatnam range.

During his service in Andhra Pradesh (now Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Jitender held various important positions. He served as DIG in Warangal range during the Telangana movement and gained experience in diverse areas like the CID, Inquiry Commission, Vigilance and Enforcement.

His commitment to public safety continued in Hyderabad, where he served as Additional Traffic Commissioner and later as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Law and Order. He also held the crucial role of Director General (DG) of Prisons.
