Telangana on High Alert : DGP Warns of Phone Scams by Phony Police Officers

Telangana on High Alert | Hyderabad, July 19: The Telangana Police Department is urging citizens to be aware of a rise in phone scams where fraudsters impersonate police officers. DGP Jitender himself took to social media to highlight this issue and educate the public on how to identify and avoid falling victim to these deceptive tactics.

Telangana on High Alert : The Scam Explained

These scams involve phone calls from unknown numbers, with the caller posing as a police officer. The scammer uses scare tactics to create a sense of urgency and panic in the victim. Here are some of the red flags to watch out for:

Fake Identity: The caller will introduce themselves as a police officer, often using an authoritative tone and potentially even referencing specific police stations or departments.
Fabricated Situations: The scammer might claim that your family members have been arrested for serious crimes like drug trafficking or have made grave mistakes that require immediate intervention.
Pressure Tactics: The goal is to frighten you into making rash decisions without proper verification. The scammer might pressure you to share personal information, send money, or take other actions that could compromise your safety or finances.

Taking Action:

DGP Jitender has taken a proactive approach by sharing a video on social media platforms. This video showcases an example of a cybercriminal impersonating a police officer during a phone call. By bringing awareness to these tactics, the DGP hopes to empower citizens to identify and avoid such scams.

Staying Safe:

Don’t Trust Unsolicited Calls: Be wary of calls from unknown numbers, especially those claiming to be from law enforcement.
Verify Information: Always verify any information received through a phone call by contacting the relevant police station or authority directly.
Never Share Personal Details: Legitimate authorities will never request personal information or financial transactions over the phone.

If you receive a suspicious call claiming to be from the police, report it immediately to the Telangana Police Department. By staying informed and vigilant, you can protect yourself from falling victim to these cunning scams.
