Justice Madan B.Lokur As New Chairman Of Electricity Inquiry Commission

Hyderabad, July 30 (Maxim News): Justice Madan Bhimrao Lokur has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Electricity Inquiry Commission in Telangana. he served as Chief Justice of the High Court and later as a Judge of the Supreme Court.

The Telangana government has appointed a new chairman as per the orders of the Supreme Court.  Earlier, Justice Narasimha Reddy was the chairman of the commission.

The Reventh Reddy government has set up an inquiry commission to investigate the decision taken by the previous government in Telangana to purchase electricity from Chhattisgarh and to set up Yadadri and Bhadradri sub-critical thermal power stations. Justice L.narasimha Reddy was appointed as the Chairman.

During the investigation, former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the formation of the Commission and the impartiality of its chairman.  The bench led by Chief Justice D.Y Chandrachud, which took up the investigation, ordered the change of the chairman of the commission.

At the same time, KCR’s plea to strike down the notification of the inquiry commission was also not considered. In view of these developments, Justice L. Narasimha Reddy has submitted his resignation letter to the Supreme Court through his lawyer, stating that he is stepping down from the post of Chairman of the Commission.

The state government, which said that it would appoint a new chairman as per the orders of the Supreme Court, appointed Justice Madan B Lokur as the new Chairman.  (Maxim News)
