Lagacharla Tribals Seek President’s Appointment

Delhi/Hyderabad, Nov 19 (Maxim News): The aggrieved families of the Lagacharla incident have sought an audience with President Droupadi Murmu to explain the ordeal and agony their families were suffering. They have decided to stay put in Delhi till the President grants an appointment.

On their behalf, the BRS approached the President’s office for an appointment in this regard.  In response, the President’s office sought information about the atrocities against the tribals at Lagacherla.

In a representation, the BRS explained the forcible attempts at land acquisition, the midnight raids by the police, and the outraging of the modesty of tribal women apart from the illegal arrests of tribal men on charges of attacking the District Collector and other officials.

The tribal women of Lagacherla had gone to Delhi on Sunday and met the National Commissions for SCs, STs, and Women along with the National Human Rights Commission on Monday.

They explained about attempts to acquire their lands forcibly by the State government and subsequent highhandedness of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s brother A Tirupati Reddy as well as the police.  They stated that while several men from their families were in police custody, many others had gone into hiding for fear of their lives.  (Maxim News)
