In December 2024, the victim from Uppal received a call from an unknown WhatsApp number. The person on the call introduced himself as a police officer from Mumbai’s Cybercrime wing. He claimed that her mobile number was misused, and several cases had already been booked against her in Mumbai.

Keeping her under ‘Digital Arrest,’ the scammers extorted a total of Rs 1.5 crore and made her transfer into their many bank accounts over some time. She was also warned not to share the details related to this digital arrest with anyone.
