The rocket’s primary mission objective — reaching orbit — was achieved as the second-stage engine cutoff was confirmed, placing the payload into space. Blue Origin celebrated the accomplishment on social media, stating, “LIFTOFF! New Glenn is beginning its first-ever ascent toward the stars.”
Setback Faced
Despite the success in reaching orbit, Blue Origin faced a setback when its booster failed to land in the Atlantic Ocean, a crucial component of the mission. Nevertheless, the company was upbeat, as the main goal of successfully reaching orbit had been accomplished. Dave Limp, CEO of Blue Origin, expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “We did it! Orbital. Great night for Team Blue. On to spring and trying again on the landing.”
