PM Modi’s Statements

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi reflected on the initiative’s journey, describing it as a “people-powered movement” that has united individuals from all walks of life. “Over the past decade, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao has emerged as a transformative initiative, driving significant change in societal attitudes toward gender biases. It has ensured that girls have access to education and opportunities to fulfill their aspirations,” he shared.

Highlighting the program’s successes, the Prime Minister noted notable improvements in the Child Sex Ratio (CSR), particularly in districts that previously recorded alarmingly low numbers.

“Thanks to the unwavering dedication of the people and various community organizations, districts with historically low child sex ratios have witnessed substantial progress. Awareness campaigns have deepened the understanding of gender equality and the importance of empowering the girl child,” PM Modi added.

What is the Initiative?

The BBBP initiative was originally launched to address the declining CSR, combat gender-biased practices, and ensure the survival, protection, and education of girls. Over the years, its scope has expanded significantly. The program now operates under the umbrella of Mission Shakti, a comprehensive initiative focused on women’s safety and empowerment. With a multi-sectoral approach, it engages key sectors such as health, education, and child development, while fostering community awareness to create a supportive environment for girls.

Key Milestones

  •  Improved Child Sex Ratios: Substantial progress in districts that faced gender imbalance.
  • Greater Awareness: Nationwide campaigns promoting the value of educating and empowering girls.
  •  Community-Driven Change: Active collaboration with organizations and grassroots communities.
  •  Policy Evolution: Integration with Mission Shakti and partnerships with multiple ministries for holistic development.

By empowering girls with access to education and equal opportunities, the initiative continues to pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.
