BJP’s Creative Protest: Kejriwal Cut-Out Submerged in Yamuna

Ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, the BJP has put a spotlight on the issue of cleaning the Yamuna River, a promise that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made but has failed to fulfill.

On the morning of Saturday, Parvesh Verma, the BJP candidate for the New Delhi assembly constituency, took part in a dramatic protest on the Yamuna River. Verma, accompanied by his party colleagues, used a life-size cut-out of Arvind Kejriwal to convey their message. The cut-out depicted Kejriwal holding his ear in an expression of shame, with the slogan, “Main fail ho gaya, mujhe vote mat dena, 2025 tak main Yamuna saaf nai kar paya,” which translates to “I am a failure, Don’t vote for me as I failed to clean the Yamuna River by 2025.”

What does it Mean?

In a bid to make a bold statement, Verma submerged the cut-out several times in the Yamuna River, right in front of the gathered media. This attention-grabbing act was designed to highlight the BJP’s dissatisfaction with Kejriwal’s failure to clean the Yamuna, a promise that has been central to the Delhi government’s agenda for years.

BJP’s Focus on Yamuna Cleanliness

The BJP is strategically using the issue of Yamuna pollution as a key talking point in their electoral campaign. The river, which is highly polluted and faces severe water quality issues, has been a point of frustration for residents of Delhi for many years. Kejriwal’s government had promised to clean the river by 2025, but many believe the progress has been insufficient.

Through this protest, the BJP is trying to capitalize on public dissatisfaction with the situation, urging voters to hold the Delhi Chief Minister accountable for his failure to tackle the pollution problem effectively. The dramatic protest on the Yamuna River is just one of many steps the BJP is taking to highlight Kejriwal’s shortcomings ahead of the assembly elections.

The Political Context

As Delhi heads towards its assembly elections, the state of the Yamuna River is becoming an important issue for political parties. With both the BJP and AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) using the river’s cleanliness as a major talking point, the focus is likely to remain on environmental issues that directly impact residents of the city. The BJP, in particular, is using this moment to push for a change in leadership, hoping that voters will be dissatisfied enough with the current government’s handling of the Yamuna cleanup to vote for an alternative.

This protest marks another chapter in the ongoing political battle over Delhi’s environmental challenges and serves as a clear message to Arvind Kejriwal and his party, as the state approaches election season.
