Kancha Gachibowli Land Protest: Actress Dia Mirza In CM Revanth’s Crosshairs; Denies Sharing Fake Visuals
Hyderabad: Actor Dia Mirza has denied claims made by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that she shared fake or AI-made photos and videos about the Kancha Gachibowli land protest.
The protest, led by students, is against the government’s plan to auction nearly 400 acres of land in an area that many say is rich in greenery and wildlife.
Dia Mirza Speaks Out on X
Late on Sunday, Dia posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying she never shared any AI-generated images.
She wrote, “The CM of Telangana posted a tweet yesterday and made claims about Kancha Gachibowli. One of them was that I had used FAKE AI-generated images/videos to support the students’ protest. This is a false statement. I have not posted a single image or video that is AI-generated. The media and the Telangana government should verify facts before making such claims.”
Dia also pointed out that her original post only had a written message. In it, she said:
“Students are raising their voices for a future where nature thrives. Forests, not IT parks, offer young people a chance at a sustainable tomorrow. ‘Development’ at the cost of biodiversity is DESTRUCTION. Save Kancha Forest in Gachibowli, Hyderabad…”
What the Chief Minister Said
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made the accusations during a review meeting on Saturday, which focused on the public backlash against the land auction.
A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that fake photos and videos using AI were widely shared on social media, making the situation worse. Officials said these visuals showed things like crying peacocks and injured deer running from bulldozers.
The CMO added that several public figures unknowingly shared these fake visuals, helping spread the wrong information.
“Even some famous people believed the fake photos and videos were real, adding fuel to the lies,” the statement said.
The government named Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, former Minister G. Jagadish Reddy, influencer Dhruv Rathee, and actors John Abraham, Dia Mirza, and Raveena Tandon.
The Protest Continues
Meanwhile, the student protest at Kancha Gachibowli is getting more attention. Activists say the land is home to many plants and animals and should not be auctioned off for development.
The government’s focus has now partly shifted to whether public figures share real or fake information. Dia Mirza is the first among the people named to come out and publicly defend herself.
