The Central government has already taken several strict measures against Pakistan, which is the mastermind behind the incident that claimed the lives of innocent people. In addition to suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, it has also ordered Pakistani diplomatic staff to leave the country.

It is known that the Union Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, met after the Pahalgam attack. Following the decisions taken in this meeting, the central government has taken strict action against Pakistan.

Speaking at a press conference, a spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that diplomatic relations with Pakistan have been downgraded. It was announced that the number of staff in the embassies of both countries will be reduced from 50 to 30. In addition, it was said that the Army, Navy and Air Force advisors in the Pakistan High Commission have also been ordered to leave the country. It was also said that Indian Military advisors in Pakistan are being recalled.

Meanwhile, India has also excluded Pakistani nationals from the SAARC Visa Waiver Scheme. Those already in India under this visa waiver scheme have been given 48 hours to leave the country. It has also closed the Attari-Wagah border check post with immediate effect.

This special visa scheme was introduced in 1988 to strengthen diplomatic relations between the SAARC countries and the bonds between the people of the respective countries. The leaders of the SAARC countries who met in Islamabad at that time designed this scheme. According to this, citizens of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan can travel to other SAARC countries without the need for regular visas. Special visa stickers are allotted under this scheme.

The scheme, which is available only to dignitaries from SAARC countries, grants visas to 24 categories of people, including government officials, members of Parliament, Judges, businessmen, journalists and sportspersons. The visa is valid for one year.

Every year, immigration officials from SAARC countries review the implementation of the scheme and revise the list of visa-exempt categories as necessary. India has temporarily suspended the exemptions granted to Pakistan under this scheme in the past. However, this is the first time that it has been completely withdrawn. (Maxim News)
