Kapil Dev Praises Telangana’s Sports Vision, Pledges Support for State’s Sports University Initiative
New Delhi, July 7 (Maxim News): Legendary cricketer and former Indian captain Kapil Dev lauded the Telangana government’s visionary approach to sports development during a meeting with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the CM’s official residence in New Delhi on Monday.
In an encouraging gesture, Kapil Dev extended his full support for the upcoming Young India Sports University proposed by the Telangana government, describing it as a much-needed step to nurture and elevate India’s athletic talent.
A Boost to Telangana’s Sports Ambitions
During their meeting, CM Revanth Reddy shared details of the state’s ambitious plans to build world-class sports infrastructure, foster young talent, and establish Telangana as a sporting powerhouse in India.

The CM also gave a comprehensive overview of the proposed Young India Sports University, highlighting its potential to not only train elite athletes but also to become a hub for sports science, coaching, and research.
Kapil Dev’s Assurance of Support
Impressed by the scale and vision of the government’s initiatives, Kapil Dev expressed a keen interest in partnering with Telangana in shaping the state’s sporting future. He assured the CM of his personal involvement in helping the university succeed and pledged to contribute to broader initiatives focused on empowering young athletes.
“Telangana’s commitment to sports, especially under CM Revanth Reddy’s leadership, is remarkable. I am happy to support and contribute to this forward-looking journey,” said Kapil Dev.
International Exposure to Guide Vision
CM Revanth Reddy also discussed insights from his recent visits to sports universities in South Korea and other countries, where he studied global best practices in sports education and infrastructure. These learnings, he said, would be instrumental in shaping Telangana’s sports ecosystem.

The meeting was also attended by Special Secretary to the CM, Ajit Reddy, and Secretary for Coordination of Central Schemes, Dr. Gaurav Uppal, who are closely involved in executing the state’s sports development strategy.
