According to police reports, the shooting occurred around 10 am, when Deepak allegedly fired five rounds from his licensed .32 bore revolver, with three bullets striking Radhika. She was immediately rushed to Asia Maringo Hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead.

Father Allegedly Upset Over Daughter’s Tennis Academy

Investigations revealed that Radhika had transitioned from active professional tennis after a shoulder injury, and later established a tennis academy in Gurugram to coach aspiring players. However, her father allegedly disapproved of her independent career and the public perception surrounding it.

Deepak Yadav reportedly told police that he was embarrassed by taunts from people in his native Wazirabad village, who accused him of “living off his daughter’s earnings.” He had allegedly asked Radhika to shut down the academy — a request she refused.

On the day of the incident, Deepak, enraged over their ongoing dispute, retrieved his revolver and shot her inside the house. The weapon used in the crime has been seized by the authorities.

Family Member Filed Complaint

The accused’s brother, who lives on the ground floor of the house, heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene. In his complaint, he stated:

“Around 10 am, I heard a loud sound and when I went to the first floor, I found my niece lying in the kitchen and the revolver in the drawing room. My son and I took her to the hospital, but it was too late.”

Victim Was a Celebrated Athlete

Radhika Yadav was known for her excellence in tennis and had represented India at the national level, winning several accolades before her injury. Her sudden and tragic death has sent shockwaves through the sports community.

Ongoing Investigation

The Gurugram Police have confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide. Deepak Yadav has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and is currently in custody.

“We have arrested the accused, seized the firearm, and are continuing the investigation,” said a senior officer.

This case has once again raised questions about patriarchal mindsets, mental health issues within families, and the pressures women face when pursuing financial independence in traditionally male-dominated households.
