Nizamabad: In a landmark event blending global collaboration with grassroots healthcare, Nizamabad Police Commissioner Sri Potharaju Sai Chaitanya, IPS, formally unveiled Bridging Borders, an internship program for Indian-origin medical students from the United States, at Bridge Gap Hospitals (formerly Indur Cancer Hospital) in Madhav Nagar.
The program was launched as part of a Free Cancer Screening Camp jointly organised by Grace Cancer Foundation and Bridge Gap Hospitals, the only rural community cancer hospital catering to five districts in Northern Telangana.
Connecting Global Youth to Rural India
Bridging Borders aims to connect international medical youth to India’s rural healthcare systems, allowing future doctors to gain firsthand experience with preventive care, diagnostics, and outreach in underserved regions.
Twelve Indian-origin interns from the U.S., including Sanjay Cherukuri, Prisha Susanne Sunkavalli, Deena Pasumarthi, Abhiram Attili, and others, were felicitated during the program’s inauguration. The Commissioner praised the initiative for fostering global medical partnerships and rural engagement, calling it “a bridge between knowledge and service.”
Cancer Screening and Awareness: The Need of the Hour
The day-long Free Cancer Screening Camp saw over 200 individuals screened for various indicators including:
- Blood Pressure
- Blood Sugar
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Mammography and Pap Smear
- Oral Cancer Screening
- Clinical Examinations, ECG, and X-rays
Commissioner Chaitanya urged the public to take preventive health seriously.
“No one knows the exact reason for cancer, but early detection is the key. People must act before it’s too late. A healthy society is the foundation for a developed India,” he said, emphasizing that Golden Telangana or Vikasit Bharat begins with healthy villages.
He also announced a future plan to screen 1,500+ Nizamabad police personnel for cancer, in partnership with Grace Cancer Foundation.
Launching the Global Grace Cancer Run 2025
The Commissioner also unveiled the official poster of the 8th Global Grace Cancer Run, scheduled for October 2025, which is expected to draw over 1.5 lakh runners across 130 countries in a hybrid format (online and offline).

He strongly advocated for HPV vaccination to prevent cervical cancer and stressed that lifestyle diseases like cancer, diabetes, and heart issues are preventable with awareness and behavior change.

Dr. Jeevan Rao, Nizamabad’s senior-most surgeon, reiterated that early detection ensures a 100% cure in many cancer cases.
The emotional testimonies of cancer survivors added a powerful layer to the event, showcasing the lifesaving potential of early diagnosis and compassionate care.
