Jurala Project Flooded: Over 1.2 Lakh Cusecs of Water Released as Reservoir Reaches Full Capacity
Hyderabad/Gadwal, July 20, 2025 — Amid heavy inflows from upper catchment areas, the Jurala Project in Telangana is witnessing significant flood-like conditions, prompting authorities to release more than 1.2 lakh cusecs of water downstream to manage reservoir levels.
According to project officials, 18,000 cusecs of inflow is being received from upstream. With the reservoir nearing its full capacity, a total of 1,20,358 cusecs of water is being discharged by lifting 23 gates.
Breakdown of Water Discharge:
- Spillway Gates: 89,640 cusecs
- Hydropower Generation: 28,267 cusecs
- Nettempadu Lift Irrigation: 750 cusecs
- Bhima Lift Scheme: 650 cusecs
- Koilsagar Lift Scheme: 315 cusecs
Reservoir Status
- Full Reservoir Level (FRL): 318.516 meters
- Current Water Level: 317.080 meters
- Total Storage Capacity: 9.657 TMC
- Current Storage: 6.878 TMC
Officials confirmed that hydroelectric power generation is actively underway as water is routed through the project’s power stations.
Precautionary Measures in Place
With water levels consistently rising due to ongoing rainfall and upstream inflows, authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Residents in low-lying areas downstream have been advised to remain alert, although no immediate threat has been reported.
The Jurala Project, a key irrigation and power-generation facility on the Krishna River, plays a critical role in supporting agriculture and energy needs across southern Telangana, especially in the Gadwal region.
