Hyderabad: In a major boost to childcare for industrial workers, the Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs of India (COWE) today inaugurated its 20th Aveksha Day Care Centre at the Apparel Export Park in Gundlapochampally, Medchal district. The initiative aims to provide free day care facilities for children of industrial workers and underserved communities.
This centre, supported by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), marks the final milestone under the SIDBI-COWE partnership, which has enabled the establishment of 20 free day care centres across Telangana. Including four additional centres supported by a private construction firm, COWE now operates a total of 24 Aveksha Centres.
The inauguration was led by Mr. Jay Kumar Gupta, Deputy General Manager at SIDBI, alongside COWE Founder Directors Ms. Uma Ghurka and Ms. Madhu Tyagi.
“Setting up 20 centres in industrial parks is a tremendous achievement. COWE has made a real impact where it’s most needed. I encourage them to continue this vital mission across the country,” said Mr. Gupta during the ceremony.
Safe, Nurturing, and Free Childcare
The new Aveksha Centre will cater to children aged 6 months to 6 years, operating Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 6 PM. It is equipped with:
- Trained caregivers
- Support staff
- On-site security guard
- Strict safety and hygiene protocols
“While working professionals can afford creches, industrial workers often lack any safe space for their kids. Aveksha bridges this critical gap—completely free of cost,” said Ms. Uma Ghurka.
Empowering Women at the Grassroots
Beyond childcare, Aveksha Centres are empowering working mothers and women professionals. According to Ms. Madhu Tyagi, the initiative has:
- Reached nearly 750 first-time working mothers
- Employed 71 women, including 50+ trained teachers
- Served children across industrial parks, construction zones, and urban bastis
- Operated from centres typically sized 800–1,000 sq. ft.
The Aveksha model is not just about day care—it’s about enabling women to work with dignity, knowing their children are safe, and creating jobs for other women in the process.

With a network of over 1,800 women entrepreneurs in 12 states, COWE is at the forefront of women-led economic and social development in India. Through initiatives like Aveksha, COWE offers practical, on-the-ground support for women in the workforce, especially in underprivileged and industrial communities
