One Nation-One Student ID: What Students and Parents in Telangana Need to Know

  • It is part of the government’s ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ program and follows the National Education Policy of 2020. APAAR ID is a unique 12-digit number that lets students store, manage, and access all their academic records online.

One Nation-One Student ID | Hyderabad, July 24: In a move aimed at streamlining student data and enhancing educational governance, the Telangana state government is preparing to roll out the ‘One Nation-One Student ID’ initiative for intermediate students across the state.

This system is part of a broader national vision to create a unified digital identity for every student in India.

Sources indicate that junior colleges in Telangana have already received instructions to begin preparations for the implementation. The initiative will assign each student a unique identification number that remains consistent throughout their academic journey—from school to higher education —making it easier to track academic progress, scholarships, and student welfare schemes.

One Nation-One Student ID

The ‘One Nation-One Student ID’ program is aligned with the Central government’s larger Digital India and National Education Policy (NEP) goals. The initiative seeks to reduce paperwork, minimize duplication of student records, and provide seamless access to various government services related to education.

However, this development also raises key questions about the implementation framework and data privacy. While the concept is promising in terms of simplifying administration and improving student services, concerns remain about how well the existing IT infrastructure will support such a large-scale initiative.

Critics have pointed out that the central government’s IT policies so far have not clearly defined how data security, consent, and accessibility will be handled—especially in rural and under-resourced areas.

Despite these concerns, state education authorities are moving ahead, optimistic that the centralized ID system will enhance transparency and efficiency in the education sector.

More details are expected once the official implementation guidelines are released in the coming weeks. For now, educational institutions are gearing up to support what could be a significant transformation in student management and academic record-keeping across Telangana.
