Hyderabad: Telangana EAGLE Force police caught a pan shop owner and his worker for allegedly selling cigarettes to minors at Old Bowenpally in Secunderabad on Sunday.
According to the police, the action followed a tip-off about the alleged sale of cigarettes and tobacco products to children. The EAGLE Force team conducted repeated checks in the area before confirming the violation.
Police said the team made 22 visits to the area before allegedly catching two minors, aged 14 and 17, purchasing cigarettes from the shop on August 30. The incident was also recorded on video as evidence.
EAGLE Force Seizes Cigarettes Worth ₹60,000
Following verification, the EAGLE Force team, along with Bowenpally police of the Malkajgiri Commissionerate, raided Limra Pan Mahal.
The police apprehended the shop owner, Md. Yusuf Uddin Goury, 65, and his 19-year-old worker, Md. Rehan Ali.
During the raid, police seized cigarettes and tobacco products belonging to around 10 brands. The seized products included Marlboro, American, Classic, Edition Gold Flake and Chams Flake.
The value of the seized cigarettes and tobacco products was estimated at approximately ₹60,000.
Police said the apprehended persons and the seized material were handed over to Bowenpally police for further legal action.
The operation is part of efforts by Telangana authorities to prevent the sale of tobacco products to minors and curb tobacco-related violations in the city.
