Hyderabad: A 21-year-old nurse was found dead under suspicious circumstances at quarters provided by a private hospital in the Pahadishareef police station limits.
Police suspect that the woman, identified as Sirisha, may have been murdered. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to Pahadishareef Inspector Lakshminarayana Reddy, Sirisha was a native of Khammam district. She had been working as a nurse at a private hospital for the past eight months and was staying in the hospital quarters.
Hyderabad Nurse Death Triggers Murder Probe
Police said Sirisha went into her room at around 10 pm on Friday and did not come out until Saturday afternoon.
Hospital staff reportedly became concerned when she failed to respond to repeated calls. They later broke open a window and found her dead inside the room.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and examined the scene. Officers reportedly noticed injuries on Sirisha’s face, raising suspicion that she may have been attacked.
A clues team and dog squad were deployed to collect evidence and samples from the scene. Subsequently, the body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. The post-mortem report is expected to provide further information about the cause and manner of death.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed at Osmania General Hospital on Sunday afternoon after BJP workers staged a dharna demanding a thorough investigation.
The protesters demanded that police identify those responsible and take stringent action if the murder suspicion is confirmed.
Security was also strengthened at the OGH mortuary following the protest. Police officials are continuing their investigation and examining available evidence to establish what happened inside the hospital quarters.
