Waqf Board Member Recalls CM’s Promises, Questions Silence on Assurances Made

Waqf Board | Hyderabad, July 23: In a heartfelt reminder to the Telangana government, Waqf Board Governing Council member Maulana Abul Fateh Syed Bandagi Badesha Quadri has revisited the initial assurances made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to the newly elected Board—questioning the current inaction despite the CM’s earlier commitments.

Speaking to IND Today, Bandagi Badesha recalled the Board’s first official meeting with the Chief Minister, during which Revanth Reddy was “kind enough to give complete attention” to the concerns and aspirations of the Waqf Board and the wider minority community.

He said the CM’s proactive engagement at the time reflected genuine understanding and empathy for the challenges faced by the Waqf institution.

“The Chief Minister listened to us with patience and promised full support for the preservation, protection, and development of Waqf properties. We also discussed ways to uplift the community through stronger institutional support,” Bandagi Badesha noted. “It was a moment of hope for us.”

However, months after that meeting, Board members are reportedly stunned by the silence from the state government.

“All those assurances seem to have gone in vain. We are shocked,” Quadri said, expressing disappointment on behalf of the members who were present during the meeting. “We expected progress— on judicial powers, on revenue coordination, and on the proposed minority sub-plan. But everything has come to a standstill.”

He further pointed out that despite clear promises, no follow-up meetings with relevant departments have taken place, and key proposals are still pending. The Waqf Board continues to grapple with massive encroachments, weak administrative powers, and lack of coordination with revenue and legal authorities.

“The CM showed remarkable commitment during that first interaction. But we are still waiting for those words to turn into action,” Quadri added.

The Waqf Board, under its current leadership, has repeatedly appealed for judicial authority, streamlined revenue support, and the introduction of a special minority sub-plan as outlined in the Congress Minority Declaration. So far, there has been no official notification or movement from the state.

As the community grows increasingly restless, the silence from the state government is drawing criticism— not just from within the Board but from the wider public as well, he added.
