Charting Future Of Commerce: Osmania University And ACCA Forge Global Pathways In AI Era

Hyderabad, Aug 4 (Maxim News)  In a significant move to transform commerce education and professional development, Osmania University’s Department of Commerce and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) recently co-hosted a crucial conference. Held on August 4, 2025, at Vivanta, Hyderabad – Begumpet, the event coincided with Commerce Day celebrations and brought together over 70 principals from colleges affiliated with and autonomous under Osmania University, along with prominent industry and academic leaders. The discussions focused on the vital connection between industry and academia, and the integration of AI and technology into teaching.

Md. Sajid Khan, Director, ACCA, opened the conference with a compelling keynote, stressing the evolving demands on finance professionals and the necessity for education to equip students with skills for the future. He highlighted how ACCA’s globally recognized qualifications are uniquely positioned to meet these demands, especially in the rapidly changing global economic landscape, and underscored the critical need to focus on Sustainability practices.

Prof. Kumar Molugaram, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, the Chief Guest, commended the collaboration. He stated, “The future of commerce education lies not just in understanding numbers, but in deciphering the algorithms that drive them. We must teach our students to be architects of tomorrow’s economic landscape, empowered by AI, yet grounded in ethical principles.” He emphasized Osmania University’s 108-year legacy and the Commerce Department’s 80 years of excellence, noting its consistent innovation. Prof. Molugaram also reiterated the role of educators in preparing for the challenges of Vikasit Bharat and the need for Quality Education to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Key academic figures from Osmania University, including Prof. M. Gangadhar, Head of the Department of Commerce, Prof. K. Krishna Chaitanya, Dean, Faculty of Commerce, Prof. Indrakanti Sekhar, Principal, Department of Commerce, and Prof. A. Patrick, Chairman, BoS, was present. They unanimously praised the strategic partnership with ACCA, offering insights into the urgent need for Indian commerce education to adapt to technological advancements and global integration. Their presence highlighted the university’s dedication to embracing forward-looking teaching methods.

A significant part of the day was the Panel Discussion on “Bridging the Industry-Academia Gap: Leveraging AI and Technology in Pedagogy,” moderated by Mr. Prabhanshu Mittal, Head of Education Partners Relationships, ACCA India. The robust exchange of ideas provided rich insights into integrating AI into curricula, fostering practical skills, and preparing students for an automated and data-driven future. Special recognition was given to Professor Sanjay Kallapur, Distinguished Professor of Accounting from the Indian School of Business (ISB), whose contributions highlighted the academic rigor and industry relevance essential for modern accounting education. Other panel members included . Sivaramu, SBU CFO, Tech Mahindra,  Sai Prashant CEO, Oasis Accountants Pvt Ltd, and Mr. Sajid Khan, ACCA. The discussion emphasized the need for personalized education, empowering educators, and the crucial collaboration between industry and academia in the AI era. The panel also highlighted the importance of simulation-based commerce education to minimize the theory-practice gap and stressed that critical thinking should be central to all courses.

The conference’s success was a testament to the collective efforts of the organizing teams. Prof. A. Patrick, Chairman – Board of Studies, Osmania University, delivered the closing remarks, reaffirming the university’s commitment to continuous improvement and industry integration. ACCA’s contributions, particularly from Ms. Althea Lee, Education Partners Relationships Lead, ACCA India, and Mr. Royston Ebenezer, Senior Business Relationship Manager – South, was instrumental in the seamless execution and impact of the program.
