Defection Case: 10 MLAs Prepare Responses to Speaker’s Notices
Defection Case | Hyderabad: Ten MLAs in Telangana are getting ready to respond to notices from the Assembly Speaker over alleged defection.
The Supreme Court had recently directed the Speaker to decide within three months on disqualification petitions. These petitions were filed against 10 Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs for allegedly joining the Congress. The case falls under the Anti-Defection Law.
Following this order, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar consulted legal experts and the Advocate General. He then issued notices to the MLAs. After signing the notices, he left for Delhi to attend the All India Speakers’ Conference.
Defection Case | Who Received the Notices?
Sources said MLAs Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy, Prakash Goud, Arekapudi Gandhi, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, and Tellam Venkat Rao have already received notices. Some got them personally, while others were served in their offices.
Notices for Kale Yadayya, Dr. Sanjay, Kadiyam Srihari, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, and Danam Nagender will be delivered by Tuesday.
Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy and Tellam Venkat Rao, who are in districts, likely to collect their notices on Monday.
Defection Case | What Do the Notices Seek?
The Speaker’s office asked the MLAs to submit explanations regarding the allegations of defection.
Legal Consultations and Strategy:
Anticipating this move after the Supreme Court order, some MLAs had already met legal experts. A few even consulted Supreme Court lawyers in Delhi. They are preparing answers based on legal advice.
Some MLAs maintain that they have not joined Congress. They claim they remain BRS legislators and met the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy only for constituency work.
Next Steps:
The Speaker is expected to return to Hyderabad on Tuesday after the Delhi conference. MLAs who received notices may meet him soon after.
There is significant interest in the MLAs’ replies and the Speaker’s decision in this crucial case.
