Officials say corruption and misuse of government lands are on the rise. Complaints about illegal registrations, including prohibited lands under Section 22A, are ignored. As a result, revenue that should go to the state treasury is being diverted.

The department earns nearly ₹15,000 crore annually. Yet, nine District Registrar (DR) posts and several Audit DR posts remain vacant.

There are 12 DR posts, 12 Audit posts, and 144 Sub-Registrar offices in the state. Normally, DRs supervise these offices, and Audit DRs check documents every three months. Currently, one officer is handling multiple districts. For example:

The Hyderabad DR also manages Mahbubnagar,  Medchal DR handles the Nalgonda audit. Karimnagar DR oversees Warangal. Adilabad DR works as the in-charge for Karimnagar Audit.

It is reported that irregularities include registrations of prohibited lands and prime properties without required permissions. Earlier this year, land worth crores was registered in Nanakramguda without NALA approval.

Three months ago, prohibited land was registered in Jubilee Hills. The sub-registrar was suspended after an inquiry. Similarly, two days ago, another sub-registrar was suspended for a similar case in Qutubullapur.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) also caught sub-registrars accepting bribes in Vanasthalipuram, Adilabad, Warangal, and Khammam.

Two Assistant Inspector General (AIG) posts and key audit positions in Hyderabad South, Warangal, Mahbubnagar, Medchal, Sangareddy, Nalgonda, and Karimnagar remain vacant.

Experts warn that these gaps create opportunities for corruption and illegal transactions in one of the state’s biggest revenue departments. (Maxim News)
