IMD Warns of Week-Long Rains in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
- Heavy Rains to Lash Telugu States, North India Struggles with Floods and Cloudbursts
IMD Warns | Hyderabad, Sept. 8: The Hyderabad Meteorological Department has forecast another spell of heavy rains for the Telugu states, warning that a new low-pressure system is likely to strengthen on Monday.
Officials said rains could intensify further on Tuesday and Wednesday, raising concerns over the risk of streams and ponds overflowing in low-lying areas.
IMD Warns
According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Center, Telangana will continue to experience rainfall from September 8 to 14.
Light to moderate showers are predicted in Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Bhupalpalli, Mulugu, Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanmakonda, Janagama and Bhuvanagiri districts.
Authorities have advised farmers and agricultural workers to take necessary precautions while working outdoors and to avoid standing under trees during thundershowers.
North Andhra to Receive More Rains, Cloudburst Hits Uttarakhand
The Andhra Pradesh Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of light to moderate rains with thundershowers in parts of North Andhra today, attributing the activity to a surface cyclone.
Districts including Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram and Manyam are likely to be affected. On Sunday, several areas of North Andhra already witnessed heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, northern India is reeling under extreme weather conditions. A cloudburst struck the Naugaon area of Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand. The sudden downpour caused houses to be buried in mud and washed away vehicles, though locals managed to evacuate in time, preventing any loss of life.
IMD Warns | Floods Submerge Crops in Haryana and Punjab, Yamuna River Breaches Danger Mark
Heavy rains have also inundated parts of Haryana and Punjab. Sirsa in Haryana reported severe flooding, with water entering houses and shops.
Officials said crops spread across more than 30,000 acres were submerged after the Ghaggar river overflowed its banks. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert, warning of continued rains in the coming days.
In Delhi, the Yamuna River has once again crossed the 207-meter mark, its fifth instance since 1963, posing fresh risks to nearby areas, including Noida and Ghaziabad, which are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall.
Punjab too is witnessing widespread damage, with floods leaving thousands of acres of crops ruined and many residents displaced.
