Petition In High Court On New Liquor Policy In Telangana

Hyderabad, Oct 14 (Maxim News) A petition has been filed in the High Court against the new liquor policy recently brought by the Telangana state government. A person named Anil Kumar filed this petition. The petition was filed expressing objections that some provisions of the policy are unconstitutional, especially regarding the application fee and reservations.

He objected in the petition to the increase in the application fee from Rs. 2 lakhs to Rs. 3 lakhs. He objected in the petition that a fee of Rs. 3 lakhs was charged for each application.

In his petition, Anil Kumar has requested that if the shop is not won in the lottery, Rs. 3 lakh will go to the Excise Department and that the department be directed to return the money. He also requested that the GO issued on the liquor policy be quashed.

It is reported that objections have been raised on some issues in the provisions of reservations allotted to Gowda, SC and ST communities in the new policy. The High Court has issued notices to the Excise Commissioner and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.

The government has recently issued a notification to allot licenses for liquor shops from December 1, 2025 to November 30, 2027 (for a period of two years). Applications are being received for allotment of licenses for 2,620 shops across the state. The Excise Department estimates that the government will generate huge revenue in the form of application fees and license fees through this process. (Maxim News)
