- IT Minister OSD denies ‘peshi’ fraud link in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Oct 20: The Office of Special Duty (OSD) to Telangana IT Minister Sridhar Babu denied any link to a reported fraud that allegedly used the minister’s peshi name to promise IT project approvals and collect Rs 1.77 crore.
The OSD issued a statement on Monday evening and said social media claims of a fresh scam are incorrect. He clarified that the incident did not happen now, but took place nearly four months ago, and is already under police investigation.
According to the OSD, the case was registered at Saifabad Police Station on June 3 this year. He said the complaint was filed on the minister’s instructions. He added that those responsible should be identified and punished strictly.
He stated that Saifabad Police identified six persons as involved in the matter. He said cases were registered against them and the investigation is in progress. He also said the six accused were arrested and sent to jail.
The OSD further said that due to the seriousness of the case, police recently transferred the investigation from Saifabad PS to Hyderabad CCS. Therefore, the old incident has resurfaced in public discussion. He asserted that neither the minister’s peshi nor the staff have any connection with the episode.
He said reports claiming that ministerial letterheads and fake papers were used are part of the police case and are being probed. He stressed that the office had already acted by lodging the complaint.
Meanwhile, the OSD rejected the current social media narrative that suggests a new fraud in the IT Minister’s name.
He said, “there is no truth” in the claim that money was taken now for an IT project promise. He reiterated that the matter is an old case under investigation and advised against creating confusion by circulating misleading content.
He underscored that the office will cooperate fully with investigators and wants strict action against the accused.
