HYC Salman Khan Nomination Rejected, Blames Congress

  • HYC founder alleges under pressure from Congress
  • Affidavit details assets; prior case and bypoll schedule noted

Hyderabad Youth Congress (HYC) founder Salman Khan alleged that election authorities rejected his papers for the Jubilee Hills by-election, claiming the Returning Officer acted “under pressure” from the ruling Congress government. He posted a message on X stating, “Aaj 22-10-225 ko mera Jubilee Hills By Poll Se Mere 4 Nomination Reject Kardiye Gaye Bina Koi Wajah Ke. Congress Government Ke pressure Me Returning Officer kaam Kar Raha hain.” The claim frames the rejection as politically influenced, though the post does not cite specific statutory grounds for the decision.

In his affidavit submitted to the Returning Officer, Salman Khan declared personal property assets valued at Rs 5,18,101. He also listed his wife’s assets as Rs 1,618 in a bank account, Rs 20,000 in cash, and three tolas of gold. The modest declaration drew attention as it came amid earlier allegations against him, including claims of misappropriating crowdfunding funds, financial fraud, bribery, and misuse of charitable donations. The wealth disclosure, therefore, contrasted sharply with those accusations in public discussion.

Police Booked Salman Khan Earlier

Days earlier, Borabanda police booked Salman Khan over alleged provocative communal remarks posted on social media. That case added legal scrutiny to his by-election bid and placed his online activity under the lens during a sensitive campaign period. Meanwhile, his supporters highlighted his grassroots presence, while critics pointed to the pending allegations and questioned his eligibility and intent. The nomination episode has thus become a flashpoint in the constituency’s heated political climate.

The Jubilee Hills by-election will be held on November 11, with counting on November 14. The bypoll was necessitated by the death of BRS leader G. Maganti, who passed away in June due to a heart attack. With nominations now contested and campaigns intensifying, the constituency remains on edge as parties and independents vie for voter attention. Any formal challenge to the Returning Officer’s decision, if pursued, would move through the prescribed election law processes and timelines.
