This incident caused visible differences among the upper echelons of the Maoist organization. The surrender of central committee figures Mallojula Venugopal and Asanna, together with over 300 Maoist cadres, has severely impacted the group’s functioning.

Sources now indicate that Madavi Hidumai, known by aliases Hidma and Santosh, may be the next major Maoist to surrender. Rumors suggest that Hidma is considering handing over his weapons in Telangana, despite public denial by Chhattisgarh police regarding any imminent surrender.

Hidma currently serves as the secretary of the Maoist party’s Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, sits on the central committee, and commands the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Platoon-1. He has earned recognition as a key strategist behind the party’s guerrilla attacks and has planned many operations alongside top leaders like Bhadranna, Nambala, and Chalapathy.

Hidma hails from Poovarti village in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh. He attended Maoist school and became active in the movement at a young age. Intelligence sources point out that Hidma has recruited many tribals from the Malla and Nishad communities into the Maoist ranks.

These recruits received armed training and joined the PLGA, strengthening its operational capabilities. Hidma, now a most wanted figure, has repeatedly escaped police pursuit. The central government believes his surrender would signal the Maoist movement’s decline, as he is linked to numerous attacks against security forces.

The debate over Hidma’s potential surrender follows the recent handover of top Maoist leaders Sonu and Ashanna and hundreds of other party members. The ongoing sequence of mass surrenders marks a turning point for the Maoist organization.
