A shocking incident of sexual assault on a sanitation worker has come to light in Hyderabad, once again highlighting the growing threat to women’s safety in the city. The latest atrocity occurred under the Borabanda police station limits. According to reports, a Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) sanitation worker was sexually assaulted by a man named Raju while on duty near the foot over bridge at ESI Hospital, Erragadda. The incident took place in the early hours of Friday but came to light later on Saturday.

The victim, who had been performing her regular morning cleaning duties in Erragadda, was attacked by the accused when she was sweeping the area. Police disclosed that Raju, who is visually impaired and was under the influence of alcohol, forced himself on the woman while she was working. After the assault, he fled the scene. The victim promptly approached the Borabanda police station and filed a complaint.

Officers registered a case immediately and launched an investigation. The accused, identified as Raju, was traced, arrested, and later remanded to judicial custody. Police found that he works as a watchman in an apartment in Model Colony. Investigations are ongoing into the sequence of events surrounding the assault.

The case has once again drawn attention to the unsafe conditions faced by women sanitation workers in public areas. The incident underscores the urgent need for better safety measures, regular patrolling, and improved awareness campaigns to protect women who serve the city in vulnerable roles.
