Jubilee Hills Bypoll: 97 People Vote In Advance

Hyderabad, Nov 5 (Maxim News): Ahead of the Jubilee Hills by-election scheduled for November 11, a total of 97 voters exercised their right to vote in advance on Tuesday through the postal ballot system. The Central Election Commission (CEC) provided home voting facilities for senior citizens aged above 85 years and persons with disabilities to ensure their participation in a safe and accessible manner.
According to officials, 103 people had applied for the home voting option in the constituency. Of them, 97 completed the process on Tuesday under heavy police security. The home voting exercise is being held in two phases — November 4 and November 6. The remaining eligible voters will cast their votes at home in the second phase.
Election officers established polling facilities at the residences to ensure official standards were met. Polling began at 7 am, and all necessary arrangements — including ballot secrecy, voting materials, and staffing — were put in place just as they would be at regular polling stations. Armed forces were deployed for additional security. Constituency Election Officer Rajinikanth Reddy personally supervised the polling activities, supported by presiding officers and assistant presiding officers, ensuring smooth and transparent conduct throughout.
Officials noted that this is the first time such a significant number of citizens — 97 in total — have participated in home voting on a single day in the Jubilee Hills constituency. The initiative was widely appreciated as a step toward greater inclusivity, enabling voters who cannot travel to polling stations to still exercise their democratic rights.
Tragically, two senior voters above 80 years of age who had applied for home voting died before polling day. When officials visited their residences, family members informed them that one individual had passed away three days earlier and the other about a week ago. Election officials expressed distress over the developments, noting that both had registered with enthusiasm to vote but could not fulfill their wish.
