Two More By-Elections Expected In Telangana

  • Congress prepares for by-elections after Jubilee Hills victory
  • Speaker likely to expel MLAs, triggering by-elections in Khairatabad and Station Ghanpur

The Congress party, buoyed by a strong win in the Jubilee Hills by-election, now faces two more by-elections in Telangana. Political circles are abuzz with the likelihood that the Speaker will soon expel two MLAs, Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Srihari, who won as BRS candidates but later joined Congress. This move could trigger by-elections in the Khairatabad and Station Ghanpur assembly constituencies.

An investigation under the Prevention of Defection Act is underway at the Speaker’s office. It focuses on several former BRS MLAs, including Nagender and Srihari, who shifted loyalties to Congress. Danam Nagender contested the Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate for the Secunderabad seat while still an MLA from BRS, confirming his change of party. Kadiyam Srihari has also openly admitted to switching parties.

These developments have reached a crucial stage, and the Speaker’s decision to expel both MLAs seems imminent. Meanwhile, Congress is already preparing to field Kadiyam Srihari again in the upcoming by-election, confident of retaining these seats. The party is encouraged by its big win in Jubilee Hills, where it overturned the BRS’s hold by a margin of over 24,000 votes.

Additionally, Congress benefits from being the ruling party in Telangana. The public’s positive response to the state government’s six guarantee schemes is expected to strengthen its position further. Congress hopes this support will help win the Khairatabad and Station Ghanpur seats in the anticipated by-elections. The political contest in Telangana is heating up as both parties gear up for these critical polls.
