Former Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof. DC Reddy Passes Away

Hyderabad, 06 December: Osmania University on Saturday announced the passing of former Vice-Chancellor Professor D. C. Reddy, a distinguished academician and reformist leader who died on December 5 at 4:12 pm. He was 86.

Prof. Reddy, born on January 11, 1939, was a celebrated figure in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and a revered teacher known for his discipline, clarity of thought, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence. The university described him as a “wonderful teacher and academician of tall order.”

A Transformative Vice-Chancellor

Prof. Reddy served as Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University from 1999 to 2002, a period widely regarded as one of the most impactful phases in the institution’s 108-year history. His tenure was marked by sweeping reforms aimed at strengthening teaching standards, research quality, and campus infrastructure. University officials noted that the changes he introduced set a benchmark and shaped the trajectory of subsequent academic leadership.

Current Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram paid tribute to the late academician, recalling him as a leader of “high calibre” whose dedication was “infectious,” motivating colleagues to work with student welfare and university advancement as their highest priorities. Prof. Molugaram said Prof. Reddy’s vision ensured that the institution constantly remained “future ready.”
