Telangana Phone Tapping Case | Hyderabad, Dec. 22 : The Telangana phone tapping case reached a decisive stage as the Special Investigation Team issued fresh notices to two senior former officials.
The SIT summoned former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and former Intelligence Chief Naveen Chand for questioning.
The notices directed them to appear before investigators at the SIT office in Jubilee Hills. Therefore, the investigation gained new momentum across the state.
The SIT accelerated the probe after reviewing recent evidence and witness statements. As a result, officials decided to question top administrative and intelligence officers from the previous government.
The move signaled a clear intent to widen accountability. Meanwhile, political and legal circles closely tracked the development.
Telangana Phone Tapping Case | Probe Reaches Senior Bureaucracy
The Telangana phone tapping case created widespread concern due to the scale of alleged surveillance. Investigators allege that illegal phone tapping targeted more than 600 individuals.
These included political leaders, judges, journalists, and businesspersons. Consequently, the case triggered a statewide debate on privacy and misuse of power.
The case began after complaints surfaced about unauthorized interception during the previous government’s tenure.
Since then, the SIT collected digital records and official files. It also examined multiple serving and retired officers.
Therefore, the probe gradually moved toward senior decision makers. Former Intelligence Chief T. Prabhakar Rao remains the prime accused in the case.
He stayed in the United States for an extended period after the allegations emerged. However, the Supreme Court directed him to return to India.
Accordingly, he returned in December 2025 and surrendered before the police. The SIT then placed him under sustained interrogation.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar leads the nine member SIT. The team continues detailed questioning of accused officers and technical staff.
Investigators also verify call data records and surveillance equipment logs. Meanwhile, officials coordinate with central agencies for technical inputs.
The SIT expects the appearance of Somesh Kumar and Naveen Chand to clarify administrative approvals and oversight mechanisms.
Their statements may help investigators map the chain of command. Hence, the questioning could shape the next phase of the case. The Telangana phone tapping case now stands at a critical juncture.
The SIT plans further summons based on upcoming testimonies. Therefore, the investigation remains under close public and judicial scrutiny.
