The Congress government in Telangana is preparing to introduce a new law for the protection of minorities, Adviser to the Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir announced on Monday. He said the proposed minority protection law aims to safeguard religious freedom and ensure the rights of minority communities. According to him, the move reflects the government’s strong commitment to communal harmony and inclusive development.

Shabbir Ali made the announcement while addressing the official Christmas celebrations held at Limra Function Hall in Kamareddy town. The programme was organised as part of the Telangana government’s initiative to conduct constituency level festivities for the Christian community. He said the government respects all religions equally and continues to work to strengthen harmony across communities. “The Telangana government respects all religions equally and is working to strengthen religious harmony in the state. A new law will soon be brought in to protect minority rights and ensure no community feels insecure,” he said.

During the event, Shabbir Ali extended Christmas greetings to the Christian community after cutting the ceremonial cake. He said the life and teachings of Lord Jesus Christ stand for peace, love, sacrifice and service to others. “His message is timeless, and his path should inspire all sections of society,” he added. He also stated that the Congress government is offering more welfare schemes and opportunities to Christians than previous governments. He said celebrating Christmas officially in every constituency shows this commitment.

Meanwhile, Shabbir Ali assured continued support to the Christian community in Kamareddy. He said all necessary infrastructure and welfare support would be provided. “The Christian community in Kamareddy will receive all necessary infrastructure and welfare support. If there are any concerns, you are welcome to bring them to my notice at any time,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Shabbir Ali distributed cheques worth ₹50 lakh to 82 beneficiaries from Kamareddy town and mandals under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The programme took place at the Congress district office. Addressing the gathering, he said, “The Congress party treats people’s struggles as its own. Extending help during difficult times is the very definition of good governance. This is what sets the Congress apart.” He later urged officials and party leaders to ensure timely help reaches genuine beneficiaries.

Later, he inspected development works in Kamareddy town. These included CC road works worth ₹10 lakh at Janmabhoomi Road in Wards 33 and 34, and a ₹20 lakh CC road project at Chota Kasab Galli in Ward 46. He said these areas were neglected for years and assured that more projects would follow.

On the same day, newly elected Kancherla village Sarpanch Aruna Swamy and Bhiknoor ward member Gajje Venu joined the Congress party. Shabbir Ali welcomed them and said their joining would strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
