Azharuddin MLC Move After Kavitha Resignation

  • Azharuddin MLC plan linked to Kavitha MLC resignation
  • Azharuddin MLC entry likely through Nizamabad local bodies seat

The Azharuddin MLC move has become a key topic in Telangana political circles following the acceptance of Kavitha’s resignation from the Legislative Council. Kavitha, who is the Telangana Jagruti President, had stepped down from her MLC post earlier and urged Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy to accept her resignation. Recently, the Chairman formally accepted it, which created a vacancy in the Council.

Kavitha was elected as an MLC from the Nizamabad local bodies constituency in 2021. However, differences with the BRS party later emerged. Following these developments, party president KCR suspended her. Due to this, Kavitha resigned from her MLC post on September 3 last year. Although she resigned earlier, the Council Chairman accepted the resignation only recently. As a result, the Nizamabad local bodies seat has now fallen vacant.

Meanwhile, attention has shifted to Minister Azharuddin. The Congress government recently gave Azharuddin the charge of Minority Welfare Minister under the Governor’s quota. However, Azharuddin is not currently a member of either House. As per the rules, he must become a member of the Legislature within six months of taking oath as a minister. Therefore, the Azharuddin MLC option has gained importance.

There are two possible routes for Azharuddin to enter the House. One option is to get special approval from the Governor. The other option is to contest from a vacant MLC seat. With Kavitha’s resignation now accepted, the Nizamabad local bodies quota seat is available. According to the available information, the Congress is planning to field Azharuddin from this seat.

This development has added a fresh political dimension. The Azharuddin MLC move comes at a time when the Congress government is working to strengthen its presence in the Council. At the same time, Kavitha’s exit has closed one chapter and opened another. While no official announcement has been made yet, the possibility of Azharuddin contesting from the vacant seat has become a subject of wide discussion. Therefore, all eyes are now on the Congress party’s next step regarding the Azharuddin MLC plan.
