Hyderabad is set to receive a trained group of 313 National Cadet Corps cadets as first responders for disaster management. This follows the successful completion of the first Yuva Aapda Mitra Training Camp. The camp concluded at 68 Medium Regiment, Bowenpally, after focused training in disaster preparedness and emergency response.
The training camp was organised by 1 Telangana Battalion NCC along with the Revenue Disaster Management Department of the Government of Telangana. It aimed to prepare young volunteers to support civil authorities during emergencies. Officials linked the initiative to Telangana’s exposure to natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods. Therefore, the programme focused on practical readiness and coordinated response.
Of the 313 NCC cadets trained under the Yuva Aapda Mitra initiative, 151 were girl cadets. This highlighted strong participation by young women in community based disaster response efforts. Meanwhile, officials noted that youth involvement remains critical in reducing disaster risks at the local level.
The core of the camp was the Yuva Aapda Mitra training module. The Revenue Disaster Management Department conducted it with support from the State Disaster Response Force, the National Disaster Response Force, and other line departments. Trainers combined classroom sessions with hands on exercises. As a result, cadets learned disaster preparedness, basic search and rescue, first aid, casualty evacuation, and methods to coordinate with civil authorities during emergencies.

Special attention was given to disaster situations specific to Telangana’s terrain and climate. Officials said such region focused training would help cadets act effectively during real emergencies. Also, it would allow them to assist district administrations in reducing the impact of disasters.
The camp ended with a formal closing ceremony attended by NCC officers and resource personnel. Addressing the cadets, officials stressed the role of trained youth in disaster risk reduction. They also underlined the need to build community resilience in a disaster prone state like Telangana.
With the completion of the Yuva Aapda Mitra Training Camp, the trained cadets are now ready to function as first responders. They will assist civil authorities and local communities during emergencies. The initiative further reinforces the NCC’s role in nation building and humanitarian service under the guidance of the Revenue Disaster Management Department, Government of Telangana, and the District Disaster Management Authority of Hyderabad District.
