Phone Tapping Case SIT Asks KCR to Appear in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Jan. 31 (Maxim News) : In the phone tapping case, the Special Investigation Team has once again issued notices to former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, directing him to appear for questioning in Hyderabad.
The SIT made it clear that the inquiry will not be conducted at Erravalli farmhouse, as sought by KCR. Officials served fresh notices at his Nandinagar residence on Saturday, asking him to attend the inquiry on Sunday at 3 pm.
The move has triggered fresh debate, as the notices were pasted on the house wall. Legal experts noted that the Supreme Court has earlier ruled against such a practice in certain circumstances.
Phone Tapping Case inquiry location becomes point of contention
Responding to the first notice issued on Thursday, KCR informed the SIT that he was busy with municipal elections.
KCR stated he could not attend the inquiry on Friday but assured full cooperation. KCR requested that the SIT conduct the questioning at his Erravalli residence.
However, the SIT rejected this request and reiterated that the inquiry in the case would be held only in Hyderabad. Officials said the Nandinagar address was used as it was mentioned by KCR in his election affidavit.
BRS leaders criticised the SIT’s approach and questioned the consistency in serving notices. They pointed out that former minister Harish Rao had mentioned Siddipet as his address in his affidavit, yet notices were served at his Narsing residence.
The address issue has now added a new dimension to the case. Political circles remain focused on whether the dispute over the inquiry venue will escalate further in the coming days. (Maxim News)
