BJP Janasena Alliance Faces Strong Opposition in Telangana
Hyderabad, Feb. 6: The BJP Janasena alliance has triggered strong opposition within the Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, with a majority of leaders openly expressing concern that the tie up may cause more harm than benefit in the state.
Several senior and grassroots BJP leaders believe that an alliance with the Janasena Party could negatively affect the party’s standing in Telangana.
According to party sources, BJP leaders who strongly supported the Telangana statehood movement are firmly against the BJP Janasena alliance.
These leaders, many of whom stood by the demand for a separate Telangana from the beginning, argue that aligning with Janasena sends the wrong political message.
The opposition is particularly strong among leaders from North Telangana, who have been vocal about protecting Telangana sentiment.
BJP Janasena alliance
Meanwhile, BJP leaders have pointed out that although Janasena is being accepted as an NDA ally at the national level, they are unwilling to support a similar alliance in Telangana.
They argue that political realities in the state are different and require a separate approach. Therefore, they feel the alliance lacks relevance in the Telangana political landscape.
Leaders opposing the alliance have also recalled past statements made by Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan. They noted that Pawan Kalyan himself had earlier stated that he undertook a week long hunger strike opposing the formation of a separate Telangana.
They also referred to his recent comments suggesting that Telangana sentiment led to problems in Konaseema, which BJP leaders say angered the people of Telangana.
Moreover, BJP leaders observed that elections are currently not being held in Hyderabad and surrounding areas, where Janasena supporters, Andhra voters, and Kapu community voters are more concentrated.
In such a situation, they argue that the alliance offers no clear advantage and instead risks political damage in Telangana.
BJP Janasena alliance | criticism of Pawan Kalyan
The criticism of Pawan Kalyan has also come from rival parties. Leaders from different political parties have repeatedly targeted him as anti Telangana and a supporter of united Andhra Pradesh.
Former MLC Kavitha strongly criticised him over the Konaseema remark. BRS leader Jagadish Reddy, PCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, and ministers Komatireddy and Vakiti Srihari also made sharp remarks. BJP leaders question how an alliance with such a figure would benefit the party.
Additionally, BJP leaders have expressed anger over alliance decisions being taken without consulting the party cadre and lower level leaders.
They warned that such decisions could weaken the party, which currently enjoys some level of public support. Interestingly, even some Pawan Kalyan supporters have expressed disappointment, stating that they prefer Janasena to contest independently but are accepting the alliance only due to leadership decisions.
