Hyderabad: Sangareddy BJP leader Kondapuram Jagan finally won an election after losing three consecutive municipal polls by narrow margins. Luck smiled on him this time as he secured a clear victory in the 3rd ward of Sangareddy municipality.
Kondapuram Jagan, a key Dalit leader of the saffron party in Sangareddy, had earlier faced repeated setbacks. However, he continued to contest despite losing by slender margins in the past. His persistence paid off in the latest municipal election.
Kondapuram Jagan’s Narrow Defeats in Municipal Elections
Jagan first contested as councillor in 2005. He lost that election by nine votes. Later, no election was conducted during the Telangana movement. Therefore, there was nearly a nine year gap before the next municipal elections were held in the State.
In 2014, Jagan contested again. He reduced his margin of defeat to six votes in his second attempt. However, he faced disappointment once more. Then, in the 2020 elections, he threw his hat in the ring again. He lost by four votes, which shocked many of his supporters.
Victory in 3rd Ward of Sangareddy Municipality
This time, however, the outcome changed. Jagan contested from the 3rd ward of Sangareddy municipality. He emerged victorious with a majority of 526 votes. He defeated his nearest rival and Congress candidate Kumar.
After the win, Jagan reflected on his journey. He said he had learnt many things from his earlier defeats and would savour this victory for the next five years.
His victory marks a turnaround after years of narrow losses. Meanwhile, supporters in Sangareddy see it as a reward for his persistence. The result also highlights how closely fought municipal elections can be, especially when margins are in single digits.
