Hyderabad: The Kamareddy land issue has turned into a major political flashpoint, leading to high tension and clashes between rival groups. The dispute intensified after BJP MLA Venkataramana Reddy challenged others to come for a discussion on Aurora College lands. As Congress leaders gathered near his camp office in large numbers, tempers flared and the situation quickly spiraled.
The confrontation began when Congress leaders arrived near the MLA’s camp office. Soon, a scuffle broke out between the two groups. In the chaos, the windows of a Congress leader’s car were broken. Therefore, the situation went out of control. Police had to step in as tensions rose sharply in the area.
Meanwhile, Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender attempted to visit his party MLA in Kamareddy to protest against the attack. However, police stopped him. A large contingent of police, led by the Medchal ACP, then placed Etala under house arrest at his residence. The move further heightened political tensions in the district.
On this occasion, Etala lashed out at the government. He warned that the Congress government is murdering democracy by practicing hooliganism. The people will teach them a befitting lesson. His remarks added to the heated political atmosphere surrounding the Kamareddy land issue.
At the same time, Kamareddy MLA Venkataramana Reddy responded strongly to Congress leaders. He said they formed a faction against him because he was preventing irregularities. He challenged them to prove him wrong and resign in the Speaker format if allegations were established. He also remarked that everyone knows about the distribution of Arora Colleges and Shishu Mandir lands. Calling the present episode just a “trailer,” he said the real “movie” is ahead. He further challenged those who threatened to stop him from entering villages, stating that he would come himself and see who would stop him.
Currently, the situation in Kamareddy remains tense. Police have deployed large forces and are taking members of both groups into custody. It is also reported that some policemen were injured during the clash. Overall, the land dispute has shaken both Kamareddy and state politics.
