CP Sajjanar shared the warning on social media, stating that several cases have come to light in recent days.

According to the police, some men are cheating women not only in love relationships but also in arranged marriages fixed by families. Initially, they follow traditional procedures like bride-viewing and engagement.

Later, once the marriage is almost confirmed, they grow close to the woman. They allegedly use emotional manipulation and false promises to exploit the victim. Afterwards, they demand huge sums of money or additional dowry, threatening to cancel the wedding if their demands are not met. Moreover, police observed that many victims hesitate to file complaints due to fear of social stigma.

As a result, fraudsters are becoming more daring. Therefore, the She Teams have advised women to remain alert until the wedding is formally completed.

Commissioner Sajjanar suggested that families should verify the groom’s background, behaviour, friends and habits in advance.

CP Sajjanar also cautioned that if anyone pressures a woman for a physical relationship before marriage, it should raise immediate suspicion.
