Hyderabad CP Sajjanar Warns Public Against Fake Websites
Hyderabad CP Sajjanar | Hyderabad, Feb. 24: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar has issued a fresh alert to the public through social media platform X, warning citizens about rising cyber fraud through fake websites.
Sajjanar cautioned that not all websites appearing at the top of search engines like Google are genuine. Cyber criminals are using advanced SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques and paid advertisements to push fake websites to the top of search results.
Officials said users often assume that the first links shown are authentic and click on them without verification.
However, these fake websites closely resemble official bank portals or government websites and are designed to steal personal information.
People searching for customer care numbers, banking services, or online payment assistance are particularly vulnerable to this trap.

Once users enter fake websites, fraudsters ask for login IDs, passwords, and OTPs. Within minutes, bank accounts can be emptied.
Commissioner Sajjanar advised citizens not to trust links marked as “Sponsored” without verification. Sajjanar urged users to carefully check the website URL before entering any personal or financial details.
Authorities also clarified that victims of cyber fraud should immediately call the toll-free number 1930 or file a complaint at the official portal www.cybercrime.gov.in
Officials stressed that reporting within the “Golden Hour” — the first hour after fraud — significantly increases the chances of recovering lost money.
The Commissioner further advised citizens to always type official website addresses directly into the browser and conduct transactions only through trusted and verified apps.
Hyderabad Police urged the public to remain alert and cautious while using online services to prevent cyber fraud.
