Hyderabad: T20 World Cup 2026 saw India beat West Indies by five wickets in a must win Super 8 clash to seal their semifinal berth on Sunday, March 1. Sanju Samson struck a magnificent unbeaten 97 and guided India to victory in a high scoring contest.
Asked to bat first, West Indies posted a competitive 195 for four in 20 overs. Roston Chase scored 40, while Shai Hope added 32. Jason Holder remained not out on 37 and Rovman Powell stayed unbeaten on 34. Their combined effort lifted West Indies to a strong total in the T20 World Cup 2026 clash.
Meanwhile, India began the chase with intent. However, the task remained challenging. Then, Sanju Samson produced a chasing masterclass. He hammered 12 fours and four sixes in his scintillating 50 ball knock. His unbeaten 97 anchored the innings as India overhauled the target with four balls to spare.
Tilak Varma scored 27 and offered steady support. Suryakumar Yadav made 18, while Hardik Pandya contributed 17. Therefore, India avoided any late hiccups and completed the chase at 199 for 5 in 19.2 overs. The win confirmed India’s semifinal berth in the T20 World Cup 2026.
Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah delivered a disciplined spell and took 2 for 36. He was the pick of the Indian bowlers. On the other hand, Jason Holder claimed 2 for 38 and Shamar Joseph took 2 for 42 for West Indies. However, their efforts could not stop India’s surge.
West Indies finished at 195 for 4 in 20 overs. India responded strongly with 199 for 5 in 19.2 overs. The T20 World Cup 2026 contest highlighted Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 97 as the defining performance in India’s crucial win.
