Delhi Liquor Policy Case: High Court Stays Trial Court Remarks

Hyderabad: The Delhi High Court has adjourned the hearing on a petition filed by the CBI in the Delhi Liquor Policy Case. The court also stayed the comments made earlier by the CBI special court on the investigation agency. Meanwhile, the High Court issued notices to all respondents involved in the petition.

The court further ordered the adjournment of the hearing related to the ED case. As a result, the next hearing in the Delhi Liquor Policy Case has been scheduled for March 16. The proceedings focused on arguments presented on behalf of the CBI regarding the ongoing investigation and related legal issues.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued the case on behalf of the CBI. During the hearing, he stated that the Delhi Liquor Policy Case represents a major corruption matter. He said that the issue involves alleged attempts to alter the excise policy through illegal payments.

CBI arguments in Delhi Liquor Policy Case highlight alleged bribery

According to Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, bribes were allegedly paid to influence changes in the excise policy. He argued before the Delhi High Court that discussions regarding the policy change took place through WhatsApp chats.

He also said that individuals such as Vijay Nair and Buchi Babu played key roles in the case. The Solicitor General further argued that the alleged bribes ranged from Rs.19 crore to Rs.100 crore. In addition, he stated that Rs.44.5 crore was transferred through hawala.

Mehta told the court that the transferred money was used in the Goa elections. He also argued that the discharge order should not have been granted at this stage of the case.

Key evidence and witness examination discussed in court

During his arguments, Mehta said that the evidence in the case had been ignored. He added that the examination of witnesses must take place during the trial stage. According to him, individuals who attended meetings connected to the policy discussions will appear before the court.

The Solicitor General also said that Dinesh Arora is a key approver in the case. He stated that Dinesh Arora had disclosed details about the events linked to the alleged policy change. Mehta further argued that discussions on altering the excise policy were held through WhatsApp.

He told the Delhi High Court that the Buchi Babu chats are important evidence in the Delhi Liquor Policy Case. The matter will now come up again when the court resumes the hearing on March 16. (Maxim News)
