FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers Held in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Mar 9 (Maxim News): The FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers began with an exciting match between Italy and Austria in Hyderabad. The international tournament is being hosted in the city as teams compete for a place in the upcoming Hockey World Cup.
CH Priyanka, Special Commissioner of Information and Public Relations, inaugurated the match. The opening ceremony marked the start of the important qualification event.
Several sports officials attended the programme. Among them were S V S Gupta, President of Hockey Karnataka, and Manoj Bhore, Vice President of Hockey Maharashtra and Member of the Hockey India Executive Board. Gurpreet Kaur, Member of the Hockey India Executive Board, was also present during the event.
The qualifiers feature international teams competing for entry into the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026. The tournament provides a platform for teams to secure their place in the global competition.
Officials said Hyderabad is hosting the prestigious qualifying matches with participation from multiple international teams. The event highlights the city’s growing role as a venue for international sporting competitions.
The opening match between Italy and Austria attracted attention from hockey fans and sports officials. Both teams displayed strong competition during the match, setting the tone for the tournament.
