Jammu Kashmir Weather: Rain and Snowfall Alert Issued

Hyderabad: Weather authorities have issued a Jammu Kashmir weather alert predicting rain and snowfall across several parts of the Union Territory. The forecast indicates cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall in many areas, while higher altitude regions may receive snowfall.

According to the India Meteorological Department, weather conditions are expected to remain cloudy in most districts today. Officials said rainfall may occur in many places, while mountainous regions of North and Central Kashmir could experience moderate snowfall.

Recent days have seen temperatures remain above normal across both the plains and the Kashmir Valley. Until last week, temperatures were recorded nearly ten degrees higher than usual in some areas. However, light rain and snowfall in high altitude regions have provided temporary relief from the rising temperatures.

Jammu Kashmir Weather Forecast and Temperature Trends

The weather forecast indicates that snowfall may occur mainly in high altitude zones. Areas in North and Central Kashmir may see moderate snowfall, which could affect traffic movement on mountain passes and high altitude roads.

The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has advised farmers to suspend field work for two days. Officials said rain and strong winds may disrupt agricultural activities during this period.

The department expects generally dry weather from March 12 to March 14. Cloudy conditions are likely to return between March 15 and March 16. Light rainfall may occur in several areas, while snowfall is expected in higher altitudes during the night of March 15 and early morning of March 16.

Further, light rain and snowfall may continue in some parts of the region between March 17 and March 18. Similar weather conditions may also occur at isolated locations between March 19 and March 20.

Meteorologists have also warned about thunderstorms and strong winds between March 11 and March 16. Wind speeds during this period may reach 30 to 40 kilometres per hour in certain areas.

Jammu Records Maximum Temperature

Temperature readings across the region remain above normal. In Jammu, the maximum temperature was recorded at 31.2 degrees Celsius, which is 5.8 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature stood at 19.1 degrees Celsius, also above normal levels.

Other locations also recorded higher temperatures. Banihal reported a maximum temperature of 23.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 13.2 degrees Celsius. At the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in Katra, the maximum temperature reached 30.4 degrees Celsius.

In the Kashmir Valley, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 10.2 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 10.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 6.4 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg recorded a high of 8.4 degrees Celsius and a low of 4.4 degrees Celsius.

Weather experts said temperatures remaining above normal levels could indicate changing climate patterns in the region. They added that such trends may influence weather conditions in the coming months.
